LAP LANDER WITH A LICKER LICENSE.
I had a Jack Russell Terrier that was crazy about licking me in the face.  My friend Larry said - "Hey, does she have a licker license?"  Next thing you know, he  added the lap lander because she's such a silly ole lap dog. We figured lots of other people probably have kissy dogs too, so we made this design -- My Dog is a Lap Lander with a Licker License!. This design  is available for many  dog breeds...check the drop list below. We are adding more designs as fast as we can so please keep checking back. I thought I would try a general page to talk about anything - new stuff - new ideas, what's happening.... just a 'sounding off - blogish sort of page' We'll see how it goes. The newest entries are listed on top.
11-25-09 We went to the Mesker Park Zoo in Evansville, Indiana to take pictures of their newest and cutest addition - jaguar cubs. Watch them live on their JAGCAM.
They are 9 weeks old - two females
Jaguar babies are called cubs.
The Momma Jaguar is very protective.
The Jaquars are solitary animals. They only come together to mate. Then the father goes off and never sees his cubs.
The zoo docent told me that this female Jaguar accidentally bit off the tongue of the male during mating.
The cubs are just  unbelievably cute, it's such a blessing to get to witness them. If you live close enough, please take the the time to make a trip out to see them. They are a miracle.
The wonder in her eyes inspired this design that I posted in my WILD ONES SHOP.
Here is Momma getting anoyed  with all the commotion of  the people watching her babies  - she was scratching on that log with her ears lowered and making growling sounds at the audience. I have made this picture into a design in my WILD ONES Shop.
I've opened a new shop called WILD ONES where I can make designs themed from wild animals - Lions, Tigers, Bears and MORE!

EFRC - The Exotic Feline Rescue Center
Centerpoint, IN
On Thanksgiving Day we made an amazing discovery about an Exotic Feline Rescue Center just about 45 miles out from Terre Haute, Indiiana. We had to go investigate this haven for over 250 large cats.
Whole families of cats kept together. You can just see how happy they are.
Puma (Cougar)
Our guide told us they go through about 3000 pounds of meat each day!
Lynx
Tiger
Lioness
Lion and Lioness
You could see the bond our guide had with many of the cats as she would go by and scratch their backs. Some, she would even give a kiss too. Most of the cats would run up to her and purr or give a little happy growl to see her.
I encourage you to visit the EFRC website, go to the facility if you can, or even help by making a donation to keep them going. What a wonderful haven for big cats.
FOR SALE
Here is a wonderful story about a dog that was in service training that didn't work out as a service dot - but it seems she had her own gift for surfing and she became a fundraisor - a very sweet and heartwarming story. A lesson in doing what you are good at and sometimes it's ok to fail, and finding your own path.

I got a wild hair to go to the Indianapolis zoo and take pictures. I had so much fun. I got to witness the baby bears playing in the water. It was very exciting.
I grabbed my neighbor and made her go with me to take pictures at the Louisville zoo. The Lions were my favorite animals at the Louisville zoo. They were in an open pit - easy to photograph - one gorgeous male and two females. There was a lot of pacing and lion to lion interaction.
The Chattenooga Zoo is very small but Oh My Gosh - they have the most gorgeous set of snow leopards. They are sisters. I stayed for hours just watching these two interact. They were amazing.
Here the snow leopard sisters are lounging among the rocks after their little playtime shown below.
A snow leopard cat-fight.
Stalking up on her sister snow leopard.
I was really excited to go the the Atlanta Zoo in Georgia to see their Panda Bear - it's the only zoo I could find that had one. It is hard to catch him awake - seems all they do is eat and sleep. The zoo keeper said they get so little nourishment from the bamboo that they don't exert much energy. I spent all day coming back again and again to catch him awake. Finally I got lucky, I took a million pictures but hardly any of them turned out well. He was indoors,  behind glass and the lighting was horrible. There was a lot of people watching him and the reflection of the people was messing up a lot of the pictures. If anyone out there knows a good technique to use on amimals behind glass, please shoot me an email.
I was pleasantly surprized with the WARTHOGS - I found a couple that were in love - they were flirting and kissing and having a very romantic time. They may be ugly at first glance, but seeing them behave so sweetly just made my old heart swell. Look at them - isn't it wonderful? I made a design called 'LOVE
makes all things BEAUTIFUL!

I'm learning that 'ZOOING'  is sort of like shopping at GoodWill - it's not what you are seeking - but what you find!
OK, I'm HOOKED on the ZOO thing - so many animals, so many photographic opportunities.

I decided to  join the Louisville Zoo as a member. I learned that there is a whole list of reciprocal zoos across the nation that I can also visit with the same membership. It's great to support the zoo, it helps your local people, it helps the animals, it's great excercise, and its just plain FUN.
I'm having so much fun with it - I opened a new Zazzle Store called
WILD ONES! Please visit and shop around.  Click on the picture or click HERE to go shopping.

Ezra had triplets tonight - 2 does and 1 buck. All are doing well. I will try to post some pictures tomorrow.
I didn't realize she was due so soon - when I went out this afternoon she was separated from the herd and her belly had dropped and her udder was full. I wen to feel her ligaments and they were gone. I put her in a separate pen with some fresh hay and bedding. I checked after dark and her some crying babies. I saw her with two fresh ones. But  I kept hearing another cry that I couldn't find. I looked around and found another one outside of the house stuck between the house and the chain link fence. She was the biggest and soaking wet. I feared she had gotten too cold being stuck out there like that. I put her in with Ezra and she licked her up really good. She was shivering and I was worried for her. I went and got a heat lamp and put it in with her. She warmed up quickly after that and started nursing. So, I feel better for her.  I have to go work the night shift now,  I will check them in the morning and try to get some pictures. It looks like Bella might go tonight too - she is as big as a house and her ligaments are soft - she was out standing off to herself too. I asked my husband to check on her during the night.
12-22-09 Here are some pictures of Ezra's triplets...2 does, 1 buck. Danzer is the father. They were born yesterday.
Mini- mancha - Doe -
Black and white spotted, brown stocking feet, blue eyes.  Lamancha ears.
I'm thinking of naming her BOOTS unless I get a better suggestion.
Mini- mancha - Doe
White with some brown spotting. Lamancha ears.
Mini- mancha - Buckling
Black cape, striped face, Nigerian Dwarf ears, blue eyes. I'm thinking of naming him Diablo - unless I get a better suggestion.
Here are the 2 girls together - look at the size difference.  Boots is the one that got stuck in the fence. I didn't think she was going to make it - but she is doing just fine. They are all so fluffy - it is hard to get really good pictures.
12-22-09 Bella had twins - 2 girls.  One is black and white the other is white with a brown spot on her back and tail. They are all doing well, and as we like to say "Bella is Swella!"
The next does due to give birth are MoonShadow and Piper.
REQUEST FOR HELP! I received an email that I don't have an answer for - if anyone has a suggestion for this problem, please let me know. Thank you.

There is a mother bear in a cave in Eli, MN that will be giving birth in just a few weeks. Her name is Lily. They have placed a live cam in there with her, so it should be an interesting thing to watch unfold. The site is www.bear.org

The babies are so adorable right now - their energy is astounding - running and jumping. They are so suprized about how far the can jump - it's like they are saying 'look Mom, my legs are made out of springs! Bouncy, Bouncy!" I tried to get some pictures of them playing - here they are riding on top of the Mom's - they jump from goat to goat. He, He, I don't think they like the wet snowy ground so they piggy back the bigger does. It's really hard to get a picture of this - they are so fast, most of the pictures are all blurry.
Reaon 1026 why I love goats so much:
The Evansville Zoo had a couple of amazing Parrots - they were out door exhibit and I took some wonderful pictures. They were very obliging to me - spreading their wings and posing so prettily.
Military Maca
Ara Militaris
Military macaws have a rough life on the savanna. Their color may protect them from predators but poachers are decimating flocks. They nest in tree cavities in the savannah and on the edges of forests. This makes stealing military macaw babies for the pet trade easier than many other macaw species
The fruits that scarlet macaws eat lack important minerals. So they gather in large flocks on the banks of South Amercan rivers and eat clay. Macaws use their strong beaks to dig out chunks of the mineral-rich mud. The flocks can be so large that they carpet the banks in bright colors.

Piper had trouble giving birth. I had to work night shift the night before and so I was sleeping late the next day - when I got up to check on her, she had already given birth to one dead buck. One leg of the second kid was sticking out of her and she was crying in agony. I pushed the leg back in and tried to feel the position of the kid. I couldn't find the second leg and the head was curled down. I couldn't get it to straighten out into the correct position. I called the vet and he said to bring her down. He couldn't get his hand in her and suggested either a c-section or to put her down because that baby wasn't coming out. I didn't like either of those options. Last time I had a goat with a C-section, she died of infection later on and I didn't want to go through that again. I did manage to get my hands in there and to get the head and legs in position but I couldn't get a good enough grip to pull with enough force to get the baby out... it's pretty slippery in there.  I remembered that I had bought a PULL-EASE gadget a while back - so I decided to take Piper home and try using that on her. The PULL EASE has a wire loop that you slip around the kid's head to give you a better grip. I slipped the noose inside and  around the baby's neck and then pulled - lo and behold it worked! So, I felt like I at least saved Piper's life. I gave her a big shot of penicillin which I will repeat 2 times a day for the next 5 or so days until I know she is safe. She's going to be sore - thats for sure - but she's alive. I feel good!

I have an opportunity to adopt/rescue one of these Great Pyrenees pups. They are supposed to be wonderful guardian dogs for the goats. I'm going out to look at them today. I asked for a girl (I think a boy would probably fight with Forest [our Golden Retriever male]). I don't know which one she is in this picture that was sent to me.

One of my goat - raising buddies, Lisa Duffy from Hooterville Farm, who also raises Llamas has written an adorable children's book called "The Derby Hat".- all the illustrations are done by her.  It's a great little book. I love the pictures - they look like they have been freshly drawn. I have such amazing friends! :)
Lisa's husband, Kevin wrote the book  - Harvesting Natures bounty -

Here she is.... our new baby. Her name is SAMARA - the name is of hebrew origin meaning 'guardian'.
She is 12 weeks old. A Great Pyrenees female weighing in at 22 lbs.
Forest and Ranger were jealous, of course, but they are coming along. She has such a sweet personality that you can't help but love her!
I introduced her to the goats. She was curious and cautious. I turned my back for just a second and Ezra ran in an head butted her. That wasn't good.
Just look at that little puppy smile.

Louisville Zoo has a new baby gorilla. I saw these pictures on the WHAS Facebook page and I had to go see for myself. Oh she is a precious thing. Mommy is very loving and protective of her. I say 'her' but actually they don't know the sex yet.  Daddy is amazing. He is big and also very protective.
My pictures didn't turn out nearly as good as these. It's very hard to get a good shot indoors, behind doulble paned dirty (hand prints) glass (both sides). If anyone has any tips about photography behind glass, I would sure like some...please email
me.  Most of my pictures come out too blurry to use when the animals are behind glass and especially in low light conditions..
Mia Moja
The baby giraffe is much bigger than shown in this picture. He has really grown up quickly.
